Fat Loss 4 Idiots is not an exercise program.  Rather, it teaches you a radical way to change WHAT you eat, WHEN you eat it, and HOW MANY TIMES you eat.  The overriding principle is “Calorie Shifting” and it sounds too good to be true.

Strategy and Rationale:

The strategy presented is to change basically everything you know about diet and nutrition.  The reasoning behind this new way of thinking consists of some pretty radical statements…

  • Low-Fat Foods DON’T WORK. Take a stroll down the grocery aisle and you will see low fat, reduced fat, zero trans fat foods EVERYWHERE.  These foods have been popular for more than 15 years (the trans fat phenomenon is more recent), but yet you see and hear news stories about people becoming more and more overweight (even children, sadly).  We all know everyone buys the lower-fat alternatives (right down to crackers)…so why the increasing obesity trend?
  • Low-Calorie Diets DON’T WORK. This statement was a real shock to me.  My thinking has always been: The fewer calories you take in, the less calories “stick” to you in the form of being overweight.  In fact, eating a low amount of calories slows your body’s fat-burning “engine” and weight loss won’t happen.  It stands to reason that the first few days of a low-calorie diet will cause some weight reduction, but subsequently the weight loss trend comes to a halt (this is known as the dieting plateau).   The way the human body “engine” works is it always attempts to burn the exact number of calories that you eat each day.  This relates to your metabolic rate…or the rate at which you burn calories.
  • Low-Carbohydrate (e.g., Atkins) Diets DON’T WORK. Most low carb menus are too strict for most people to follow for any length of time.  Low carb diets also tend to rob your body of too much energy, so you don’t feel “yourself.”  You end up lackadaisical, tired, and usually pretty irritable as well (bad news for your sig O, eh?).

The diet system uses another technique called “Calorie Shifting.”  This means that you will eat different TYPES of calories each day, which confuses your metabolism and forces FASTER fat loss.

Conclusion:

I’ve studied the details of this diet program, and if you can stick to a detailed, structured regimen, you will be satisfied with the results.  One of the big benefits is you don’t have to eat green goo “mystery shakes” or run marathons each week.  It’s easy…the program just requires discipline.
